    • This is the cookbook of a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles. It’s survived and thrived for many years, and it’s one of my favorite, if not my very favorite, restaurant in L.A. I love having the cookbook as I don’t get there very often. These restaurant cookbooks are wonderful to have if you live out the area but want to have access to the food/recipes.

    • I made the red bean-squash-okra stew and it was delicious. Thick, full of chunky veggies, boldly spiced. But that's the only recipe that appealed to me.Overall, this book has too much tofu/seitan/tempeh for my taste. And I hate recipes that involve making a bunch of other recipes first. Case in point: Black Bean Tostadas involve seven ingredients, but only three are actual "ingredients." The other four are separate recipes in the book. And the headnote suggests making two more recipes for extra f [...]

    • You know a vegetarian restaurant is good when celebrity sightings are a regular occurrence. Real Food Daily has seen the likes of famous veggies such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Tobey Maguire, and Moby, just to mention a few. Located in Southern California, owner Ann Gentry steered away from the "granola" image of health food and created instead two hip, sophisticated and very successful restaurants, one in West Hollywood and the other in Santa Monica.Comfort is the key word to this food. This beautiful [...]

    • I like this cookbook. For some reason, I started out intimidated by it, but nothing in it is impossible or even really difficult. It's just that most of the recipes take a little time -- making it the ideal weekend cookbook. Now for specific recipes The red bean chili with butternut squash [and okra:] was good even without the okra. The flavors were well balanced and it was chock full of veggies. I found it to be a little runny, but Jeff liked sopping it up with tortilla chips. The texicali chop w [...]

    • I've been a fan of Real Food Daily in Santa Monica, California for well over 10 years now. The food is fantastic, healthy and flavorful! I was psyched when I saw the restaurant put out a cookbook and managed to cook recipes the 3rd time I checked out the book from the library. The recipes can be intimidating, especially if you are not familiar with vegan/macrobiotic cooking or cooking generally. But I have to say that it's worth the investment to make at least one of the dishes in this cookbook [...]

    • I bought this cookbook a few years ago and made the cashew cheddar cheese. (Excellent!) When I bought it I was new to vegan cooking and found the book to be a bit intimidating and to have a little more seitan and tempeh than I was ready for but it is a good resource for creative, restaurant-worthy recipes and after sticking my toes in the water and becoming more familiar with meat-free ingredients, I have found it to be more user-friendly than I initially thought. I pulled this book back out and [...]

    • I've made the asparagus soup, tempeh loaf and the mac&cheese so far. All turned out great. I'm very pleasantly surprised with this cookbook. I was expecting the recipes to be less approachable since it's from a restaurant. Fortunately that's not the case, the ingredients and preparation are very down-to-earth. Not to mention the great photography, and the anecdotes about the restaurant throughout the book. This has very quickly become one of my favorites.

    • I love this book! And the restaurant. There are a manageable number of recipes so you could potentially make all of them. I've been working through the soup chapter these past few months and have been very pleased with the results. Most recipes are relatively easy to make. The book is printed on a more durable paper than most, and has lots of beautiful pictures. A wonderful way to bring the taste of Real Food Daily home and eat healthier in the process.

    • Now that I live in Southern California I am surrounded by health food restaurants such as the popular Real Food Daily. Most of the recipes featured here appealed to me though I would rather use actual dairy products than some newfangled cashew "cheese." Nutritional yeast does not compare to Parmesan no matter what any vegan tries to convince you (or herself!)

    • I might give this one more stars as I try the recipes. They look really good. I enjoyed the first part of the book where the author talked about her take on food and gave ideas on how to change a diet. Her restaurant sounds awesome. Anyway, I'll have to update my review after I make some things from here.

    • one of the best vegan cookbooks out there. The desserts aren't so hot, but the entrees are totally dependable. It's a vegan "meat and potatoes" kind of a book, hearty, healthy, nourishing meals. good.

    • It was fun to use the cookbook after eating at the restaurant. We made the cashew cheese and the "chicken" seitan. Both were outstanding--the best substitutes we've made. I liked our version of the "cheese" better than the restaurants! I plan to make the tortilla soup soon.

    • Though I enjoyed the pictures, there is a misleading word in the title. This book is not merely vegetarian, it's vegan. I went in hoping to find good vegetarian meals, but nearly all of the recipes use products that are expensive and hard to find. Nice try, but not helpful.

    • I was very excited to get this book, but have been a bit disappointed with it. The recipes aren't as varied as I'd like, and preparation isn't as easy/quick. Some of the combinations just seem odd

    • the food in this book can take a while to prepare, but when you sit down to eat, all the work is worth it. follow the directions and you won't be disappointed. full of flavor and filling. yum!

    • it feels outdated. i also cringed to read the tagline of "really fresh. really good. really vegetarian." i have been to one of the restaurants in LA and enjoyed it though.

    • So many great dishes from the restaurant that I can recreate at home. Simple instructions and lovely photos to inspire.

    • I ate at this restaurant in Santa Monica in March, and it was delicious! I can't wait to try the recipes at home.

    • All recipes are vegan (some use cashew cheese - yum!), and most look amazing yet easy to make. First up for me: Butternut squash, corn, and cilantro phyllo rolls.
